comments/opinions/compliments, etc. everyone! It's nice to see that others are as excited about this litter as we are!
I just wanted to mention something about the Parthenogenesis theory. We were discussing these babies with a good friend of ours who is a molecular biologist. He explained to us that there are a couple of different things that could happen with parthenogenesis. There are two different points in the developement that it can occur at. If it occurs at this one point, then all the babies should be "clones" of the mom so in this case, they should have all been hypos. However, if it happens at the sex cell stage, then you would have different results - you would have both normals and super versions.
His explaination was MUCH better than mine with a lot more professional terms which escape my memory. However, that is the basic principle of what he was saying which was very interesting because that could actually have been what happened in this instance. It could explain the strange "super-like" look that the Hypos have to them.
Also, if this was the result of parthenogenises, there is also the possibility that each one of the offspring could reproduce in this manner. Could you imagine not having to "breed" boas to produce babies? Now that would be CRAZY!
Regardless, the paternity test should help rule out various theories! I hope it works!!
Also, here is a picture of mom as a baby. As you can see from the photo, she wasn't anything really "special" - just a very nice, CLEAN F1 Hypo which is why I got her!
Thanks,
Celia
