West Texas again > driving the curves one night and almost crashing because to what we saw was the biggest and prettiest gray-banded kingsnake ever either just coming on to road or getting off road turned out to be a PAINTED and planted toy snake by some one.

That sounds like a deliberate, malicious, and diabolical attempt to cause grevious bodilly injury and/or death, by someone with a grudge against herpers. It also sounds like a setup. Do you have any enemies who knew you would be driving that stretch of road? Or maybe just a really bad practicle joke.
