What causes a docile

snake to become aggressive? I have a 2 year old boa(male) that I've owned since he was a couple of months old. He has always been calm and docile. Last week he bit me and now seems very aggressive.
I now have to use a snake hook to lift him up.
Have any of you gone through this before?
