And as far as your doggie Sam, it made me cry thinking about it. I hear/feel your heart hurting, as my Grizzly (Old English sheepdog) was 10 and was diognosed with intestinal cancer in Jan. FLOORED me.
We were told he could go into remission with his type if we did Chemo, Against my better judgment I went for it, only to lose my big buddy 2 weeks later, and still rips my guts out thinking about him 
We have since gotten 2 adorable sheepie pups, that I love so very much, but the thought of Grizzly turns on uncontrollable TEARS !
Here anytime ya wanna talk , we all have been there and know how tramatic it is when they are sick or we lose them.
Take care, the uros will have more eggies. And your buddies are in Gods hands!
