That is a black phase eastern hognose snake (heterodon platirhinos). They feign death when attacked or otherwise molested; are you sure it's really dead? LOL. They are common in Georgia, less so in neighboring Alabama;he did'nt get up and crawl away a few minutes later, did he? Hope this helps.
