Question about feeding response

I bought a captive bred baby ball a few weeks ago and he has eaten f/t rat pups for his first 2 feedings without hesitation. Last night he missed the pup and got a mouthful of bedding which he dropped in his water bowl. Afte that he didn't want anything to do with the pup and I tried to feed him again tonight with no luck again.

Could he have been turned off to these because of that incident? He's been cruising around his cage like he's hungry, but I couldn't entice him even off tongs.
