Today my very wierd vanishing patterned corn snake laid eggs after breeding her back to the father to see what kind of genetics I can prove out. Here's a post chop full of questions.



First off, egg handling. When she was done laying her clutch, first one ever for her, I was handling the eggs to get them into the incubator. I lightly mark them with a pencil to know what's up and what down, and then move them into the vermiculite substrate I use. Anywho, one of them rolled over momentarily, and I immediately righted it back up. This was maybe six hours after she laid the egg. Is this egg going to be viable, or is the rule, once you flip it, he's dead immediately?



Second question is genetically speaking. Three years ago I bred my ghost to my vanishing/striped amel, and got the wierd snake pictured below. This year, I bred her back to the dad, which was the vanishing patterned amel. I know a ghost is Anery and hypo, and I know both these two are het for strange matters, either motley or hurricane, depending on the hatch out, but what the hell am I gonna get with this snake bred back to the dad? Her clutch mates were are variety, from amel, to anery, hurricaned and striped. No normals. I'm thinking there's something going on, but this is the only one that came out this chocolate color, with very little if no pattern. Was she just a fluke, and I'll never see one again, or should I be expecting half a clutch of these chocolate lookin' vanishing patterned corn snakes?



Oh yea, two weeks later, I introduced the ghost and amel striped, so they are gonna have a clutch laid pretty soon. I love egg season.
