Hello again,
Some of you may remember Rico (black rough neck monitor)~ I come in here asking questions about in occasionally. He is a 1 ˝ old now. He is a great display animal~ and though we rarely handle him and he obviously prefers we do not~ he doesn’t bite when we need to get a hold of him for some reason or another (he does hiss a lot!) I’m actually finding I enjoy watching him much more than I thought I would (wasn’t so sure what a good idea he was when hubby got him in 04’.)

I know that most snakes prefer to be solitary~ but Rico seems much more intelligent than any of my snakes are. Would a companion be a good idea to keep with him? If so~ what would you suggest? Can another species of monitor live with him and both be happy? Or would I be better off searching for a girl for him? (……..and if so~ how do I tell the males from the females? I believe y’all are the ones that told me Rico is a boy~)

Male right?
