My female panther I believe may be gravid. I placed my male in her cage on Saturday and observed a traditional mating ritual. He mounted her and they were observed mating for about 45 minutes and then again, an hour later, mating for about 30 minutes. Her coloring has not drastically changed but she does appear to have a little more black and the pink lateral stripe that she has, which was solid from snout to vent before mating, is now broken into sections. She does not show aggression towards my male but she does not seem interested either, because she will just stay up in her corner and not even acknowledge him, whereas before she would play the "hard to get game" until he caught her and they mated. My male does not really seem interested in her anymore either. Before he would start head bobbing and getting excited when he saw her and now he seems actually afraid of her. Can males sense a female's non-receptiveness and actually know to stay away? Also, if she was observed mating twice is it a pretty good possibility of her being gravid or are there often unsuccessful matings? Thanks for the advice!
