Back from Costa Rica to a mess.....

..of babies! Just got home this morning to find first these terciopelos in the Neodesha....


There were 17 live (so far) babies and a half dozen or so stillborns, or possibly live that were crushed by the adults. I still haven't totaled the cage yet to check inside the hide box, so there may be a few more.

Then, I noticed a tiny mess in the Hutmanni box and open it up to find what I thought was a single baby coiled in the corner, only to move the adults and find 8 BABY HOGNOSE VIPERS (Porthidium l. hutmanni)!!!



I never witnessed copulation and the adults are just 3 years old. I was awstruck that these snakes produced, and with no special light/temp/or humidity cycles...just occasional misting.




Anyway, I'm exhausted and will post Costa Rica trip pics later.
