Im in Va. My LOCAL government has no regulations against it. But I know other local governents that do, like Chesapeake for instance, you have to register with them that you're keeping hots. Hampton, no hots allowed or pythons or boas either.

The STATE says no Canebrakes allowed, captive/wild/young/old whatever. They're protected in the state (because they have a small population count IN THE STATE BORDERS no doubt because of their range, not that they are endangered or anything stupid like that. They're a dime-a-dozen in neighboring NC).
I wrote DGIF and asked about keeping Timbers, and what if I get blamed for keeping a Cane if the state decides it's a Cane and not a Timber. This could lead to the "Lumpers or Splitters" argument, in which the state seems to have a splitters attitude. The response I got was not really clear though as to how they determine which is which, probably just by looks, which can have some shady areas. So to avoid dancing with the devil, I wont keep Timbers.
