The basking spot temp may be fine, but typically, as the cham sits and basks it's body temp rises over time to a point that the cham may get a bit too warm. Often, right before they decide to move out of the heat they will gape for a while. I'll bet the gaping started during the bask and the next thing your cham did was move out of the spot, right?
