Hi, everyone. My kids (ages 5 and 7) and I have become very interested in having a leopard gecko as a pet. It will be our first reptilian pet, but I have researched leos online and it seems like a good way for beginners to begin to enjoy reptiles. It also looks like a reptile that may put up with some carefully supervised gentle handling by children. (I will be working hard to ensure the carefully supervised, gentle part.)
We live in Northern Virginia, and I would very much prefer to adopt/rescue a leo rather than purchase one, if possible. I've been looking around for local rescue groups and will check with my county animal shelter (and those of surrounding counties), but I'd appreciate any leads anyone could offer, as well as any advice from experienced folks. (Including advice that this may not be the best pet for a family with young children, if that's your honest opinion -- we choose our pets very carefully, and I want to make my decision with eyes wide open.)
Thanks very much!
Amy
