By my understanding, the only way you can tell if an animal is captive bred would be by proof! Proof of parents and eggs.

Most anooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo(sorry that was my monitor)Most likely he is wild caught; I heard that many roughnecks have a pretty docile temperament even when they are wild caught. Being loaded with parasites is also a good indication of being wild caught. I have found that many people that don't specify whether wild caught or captive bred are usually selling wild caught animals. Your assumptions are probably correct.
