CBS4 (Doral, Florida) 17 June 06 Miami Rescuers Aid Coral Snake Bite Victim

Lakeland: One of Florida’s more unfavorable species of wildlife bit a Lakeland woman and sent Miami-Dade rescuers in search of an anti-venom.

Miami Dade Fire Rescue responded to a Coral Snake bite in Lakeland, Florida located in Polk County. Because of an apparent state-wide shortage of the anti-venom, Miami Dade Fire Rescue had to deliver the anti-venom via airplane.

Rescuers used a Metro Dade Police airplane, the plane’s first flight leaving from Tamiami Airport.

Rescuers arrived to the area emergency room where the victim was rushed to and administered the anti-venom. Officials say the victim’s condition improved almost immediately and is expected to make a full recovery.

Coral Snakes can be found all over Florida. Residents are warned that should one be encountered, Animal Control officials should be contacted immediately.
