Leos, especially adult leos, are pretty calm creatures by nature. Assuming your leo is like most of its bretheren, you will have to scare the little guy pretty badly for him to drop his tail or bite you. Just use your common sense: be very gentle and avoid quick, jerky movements. Also, remember that even though leos are quite docile and can be picked up, most people generally agree that reptiles prefer to be left alone. I try to avoid handling my leos too much because I personally believe they are happier this way.
