Hi,

I am hoping this message will reach someone who can help me.
This past weekend my family and I viewed a box turtle in the middle of the road, and it was nearly hit by several cars. We stopped and 'rescued' it. My 8 year old daughter wanted to keep him/her, which I was considering; however, after doing some research, and reading how important it is to create a natural habitat for him/her, I believe if it is a wild turtle, then it deserves the right to remain so. I do question in the back of my mind, however, if it is possible that at one point in time it was someones pet, because it is not afraid of people, at all. I am considering releasing it in the back of my property (approx. 10 miles from where we found it) behind my home is a constant running creek, woods, plenty of insects, frogs, mulberry trees and even deer that reside in the vast shaded area. To me it would be an ideal home for the turtle, with his/her beautiful tan shell in a design which resembles a leopard print, and his/her eyes are a vibrant redish-orange. Anyway, I am a true lover of all Gods creatures and just want to make the best decision for this turtles future home.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Concerned new turtle lover...

Nikki from Ohio
