I've got a worm bin/compost pile going in a
bin comprised mostly of peat moss and leaves.
The only other thing I put i are lettuce and
occasionally some fruit and vegetable scraps.

I do put some hay, left over from winter hibernation
insulation and some sticks and bark strips in there
as the pill bugs like to congregate on thoses.

The main thing they need is humidity and a food
source, which can be any kind of decaying vegetative
matter. Its good to have some hay or leaves piled up
so if it rains they have something to climb up above
any water line that forms. I usually try to cover
it when it rains, when I can.

In two years, the rolipolies and worms have survived
winter freezes, even thought the bin is above ground,
sometimes I put some hay around it though.

Hope this helps!
