You are correct, the US genera listed above average less than 8 ft. However, they all have wild caught records of 8 ft (96 inches or more).

103 1/2 inches Eastern Indigo Drymarchon couperi
102 1/4 inches Texas Indigo D. corias erebennus
102 /- inches Eastern Coachwhip Masticophis flagellum flagellum
101 inches Black Ratsnake Elaphe obsoleta obsoleta
100 inches Bullsnake Pitophis melanoluceus sayi

These are all impressively large serpents - even if wild 8 ft monsters are rare, CB individuals can exceed the WC records.

One other US snake just makes it to 8 ft - but is NOT recommended for a pet!

96 inches Eastern Diamondback Crotalus adamanteous

There are several Central and South American colubrid snakes that can exceed 8 ft with more frequency, including other Drymarchon ssps, Spilotes, and possibly the Mussarana.

And, of course, several races of Boa Constrictor.

John D
