Hatchling egg eaters will only take finch eggs or other eggs of the same size.



Most dasypeltis species will end up taking quail eggs as adults (maybe small chicken eggs as large adults), but not D. medici - only really large adults have been reported taking quail eggs, usually they only take finch, parakeet, dove, and other eggs of birds that nest in trees and have relatively thin-shelled eggs.



There are very few cb dasypeltis available. They breed easily, but since it's so hard to feed hatchlings, few people breed them.



There is an egg-eater yahoo group worth checking out if you're interested in getting one. Its archives and current members are the best source of information I've found online.



I have five - two D. medici (first pic) and three D. scabra (second pic). All are eating, but I'm getting rid of the D. medici (finally found someone to take them) - too hard to feed. Even the D. scabra I've got are pickier than I had been expecting.
