Went out last saturday to search for box turtles. Was anticapating soaking rains but no such luck. I did however find five boxies 4 adults, and one 2-4 year old. I was hoping to get out more than once since the weather was perfect for finding boxies. Unfortunately, I could only get out once, but this morning I was treated to this male who was eating a apple on the ground. He only had three paws, one was a stub(looked to be a very old injury) and an ear abscess. Besides that he appeared healthy and old. He was a huge box turtle and the first one I've seen in over 20 years in my backyard. Really a rare occurence, I felt bad for him knowing he may be the only one of his species around. I gave him some blueberries and it was tough to let him go. It was weird to think that this guy has been on this land before there was houses built in the sixties. I'm sure he would prefer the peach and apple orchards that it use to be.
