As the other poster suggested I think if you are going to start a project you should buy at least 2-3 females. We have found several of our females in the 500-800 gram range for under a 100 bucks. Just 3 months ago we bought 3 females for $105. One was 200g and the other two were 600 grams.
Luck swings both ways! My first ball python was a rescue that an experienced reptile breeder determined was a male. 4 years later....she had 4 babies! What a way to sex your snake!

We also bought a guarenteed female baby with a crazy pattern and since I didn't bring my probes (and didn't know how to pop at the time), walked home with a male.

At least now I am able to pop a hatchling, and can successfully probe an adult, so I won't have these problems too much in the future! But, all mistakes I cop up as a learning experience! ----- ---------
6.14 Normal ball pythons

0.1 Normal Kenyan Sand Boa

-----My list is too long, so I'll stop here!
