About raw eggs....

Well.... I do a lot of reading, on a lot of different subjects, but I can't guarantee that the sources are all correct. With that said....

Raw eggs can carry salmonella, when they fertilize, the bacteria die. Monitors can carry the virus and not get sick, but depending on the strain it can make them very sick. If they already have a problem, (you won't know about any problems till it's REALLY bad) like a respiratory infection (too cold? too breezy?) or lack of humidity (dehydration, bad sheds) or even parasites and lowered immune system from stress, they are more susceptible. Scooter was diagnosed by our vet with salmonella poisoning after he raided the garbage and ate raw chicken skins. $530.00 later.... boy was that a poke with a sharp stick. He was really sick for awhile. Meat packing plants can carry super bacteria that strengthen by becoming resistant to cleaning agents. I would not feed Scooter unfertilized eggs, but I do occasionally get him fertilized quail and goose eggs. For a few days after he gets a goose egg he seems so much more eager to see me...lol I can tell how much he loves eggs If you can find a way to get them locally, see if you can get ones that are halfway to three-quarter fertilized. It's messy, but if you ask Scootee, he would have one every day.
Good luck -H-
Oh, he thinks peices of hard boiled egg is very tasty as well! I do not recommend it as a meal, this is a treat only.
