Twice in the past month or so I have stumbled upon extraordinary deals on light bulbs at "major home materials chains". The first time I scored two dozen Sylvania 50W/double-life/flood bulbs for .25 apiece (full price=$3.79). Another shopper sent his wife for a cart while guarding the 150W bulbs for 1.00 apiece. "Reptiles?" he asked me. "Yep. . .monitors?" I asked him. "Yep, three, plus a couple of retics." I was also able to get some 65W larger bulbs for my bigger enclosures at .75 apiece. Needless to say, there wasn't much left on the clearance rack when we were through. The second time (today) I found bulbs for growing plants--$1.19 apiece.

According to a person wearing a brightly colored vest, the bulbs are fine. It has to do with inventory and lots and old lots having to be sold before new ones can be put on shelves. It doesn't happen on a regular schedule, and she suggested keeping an eye open every time I shop there--you betcha'!
