In my experience animals retain about 1/3-1/2 of their food as actual weight as long as they are on a routine feeding schedule. If you are feeding the snake big medium rats you could expect the snake to retain about 60-80gms per feeding. If you feed on a 5 day routine that would be 6 feedings and the snake could gain roughly 400-500 gms in a month. snakes put on large amounts of weight when they get switched to bigger rats as there is just more protein per feeding, unless they are eating 6-8 mice per feeding before that.
You say that you want to breed her next/this comming up season, that should not be a problem. Any female that is feeding good right now and over 900g should have no problem putting on 400-500g and make minimal breeding weight which depending on the person you talk to is 1200-1500g and some people won't breed until over 2000g. The one thing you have to realize is if the female is an 05 she still may not be "mature" enough to produce eggs. I myself have several killer feeding 05's that are well over 900g and if they continue to slam rats for the next 5 months will easily be put into my breeding rotation. My breeding criteria is 1500 gram for any female 2.5 yrs or younger and 1200g for any female over 2.5 yrs. The reason for the lower weight of older females is I may not have had them when they were younger and they could have been stunted during their first year or two and they won't have as high of a weight or size when fully grown. Hope this helps. ----- Josh Hutto
