sexing question a little help please

ok so i take a new snake to the vet to have it probed..it's a boy..ok and then today im reading and it say's when you probe a ball python you go twords the tip of the tale??? this is not what i saw the vet do so??? im confused do you go twords the tip of the tale or twords the head???? just wondering thanks
