well i agree with you to a point and i am still on debate about this with myself. i have had kinks in previouse years and was told it was either too high of temps or too high of humidity.
so this year i lowered my temps to 80 f and humidity was lowered. and guess what i still got two babies with kinks. but the weird thing is is that the kinks did not appear until just before shed. i believe it to be a cause of under development in the egg. the cause to me is still unknown. i can say that the amount of babies with kinks decreased. i usually had about 4-5 but all were mobile and functional as pets except one who lost control of his last 2 inches of body/tail and had to be put down. also one baby was given to a friend as a pet and has out grown the kinks.
