If the snake has a bad infestation, I remember something about vegetable oil would kill all mites on the snake safely. just lube em up in a seperate tub while your cleaning/treating the cage. IMO, only necessary when you have lots of mice or maybe a larger animal with more hiding space between the scales. My recent experience was confined to hatchlings.

Oh yeah, good luck picking up the oiled snake...I would think kinda like a greased pig without anything to grab.
