Wow, what a month. I wanted to post everything that happened in one long post entitled “Month in Review,” but I was afraid that I wouldn’t receive responses to specific problems.



My first clutch ever hatched two weeks ago. I crossed my Motley Sunglow female with my Motley Anerythristic Male (the pairing was purely accidental. I bred my original two snakes together, and my girlfriend’s two snakes together.)



There were originally fifteen eggs. One was laid in the water dish, and four others were obvious slugs. Two more developed mold sometime during the incubation, and were discarded. Of the eight remaining eggs, three were Motley Normals and four were healthy Motley Amelanistics. (surprise, my male must have been het for amel.) They all shed in the last three days, and are eating frozen pinkies tonight.



The final hatchling was a Motley Amel, but kinked. I thought that it might survive, but two days ago, it started discharging a crusty yellow fluid, and its tail acted completely dead. I euthanized it this evening.



This was surprising hard for me to do. I thought that I wouldn’t have a problem with it, but I guess that the place in my heart for corn snakes is bigger than I knew.



I’m not sure what to do with the young now, though. Seven snakes don’t really lend themselves to renting a table at the expo, but they are all 100% het for Motley Snow, so we’ll see. I can figure something out.
