I received a male Guyana BCC from a guy who was feeding from a certain rodent supply company and the exact same thing happened about 10 days after I received him (and I hadn't fed yet). Except, over 2 years after it happened, the color never returned. Mine may have been more severe as some of the scales came completely off of the snakes body. The texture was nowhere NEAR the same after that shed and the texture never came completely back, but it did get MUCH better after numerous sheds. I ended up adopting that animal out because I didn't feel right selling it.

This is a bad picture of him and I had just misted the cage. But you can see the color never returned to normal even after a couple of years. Unfortunately the tail isn't in plain view but it's exactly as you described it.
