I would see a vet very soon. Very very soon.
I just went through a horrible ordeal babysitting aquatic yearlings with "shell rot."
I have a feeling the little map isn't living now but I'm not sure, haven't heard back from the owner.
This map had an ongoing shell infection for months on end without treatment. I think by the time treatment began it was too late. 2 days before the owner came back from vacation the little map's leg fell off. I've discussed this with an exotics vet who speculates there was likely infection in the bone already because the infection had gone on for too long without treatment.
I tried to tell the owner months ago that you should not allow a shell infection to go on for long without antibiotics but I wasn't heard & now the turtle has suffered because of that.
If treatment had been done months ago it wouldn't have cost very much & this would've cleared up back then and the turtle would've been fine but that didn't happen. ----- PHRatz
