Here is what I would do. Both of you sound like this is just the next step in extending your hobby, not a full time job. You can do a few things in this situation.
Share all the animals. Since he is fronting the money and you are fronting your skills and labor (that is a very fair split if you ask me). If you are investing in morphs to start a business, why don't you split all of the money for a few years, then "buy out" the animals from each other when the time comes. You seem like good enough friends (just don't let money or snakes come between your friendship, and believe me i've seen it happen before).
You could also flip a coin for who gets first dibs this clutch and go snake for snake after the first one is picked (like in a draft order). Then next clutch, the other person gets first dibs.
