I don't know about the temperament issue; I only have one male at the moment (getting my new one next week) and he has always been a little brat when it comes to temperament.. I do have him housed in the same room as two of my three females; only one fem. in the room is a mature female though, the other is an '06.
I would definately quarantine the newbie for a month or so; after a vet check to rule out parasites, etc, you can then observe him visually and beware of any signs of disease.
From what I have read, it is caging males and females together that can put a damper on the male's desire to breed; or at least, keeping them seperated and then introducing the male at breeding time (November) will help "kick in" the breeding response. ----- 2.3 Ball Pythons

Also have fancy goldfish, african cichlids, and rats.
