Male sand boas can be "funny" when it comes to feeding. My current male eats perhaps four times per year if I'm lucky. He's small, but healthy and sires gorgeous big babies. Sometimes he'll only take one f/t mouse fuzzy--other times he wants five! Most times he wants none, but I've learned that it's just his quirky way. He definately doesn't eat once the girls are ready to breed! I offer him food every week. Another male I had ate sporadically once he was about two years old.

If your temps and husbandry are good and there are no female boids sending him phermonal messages in the area, perhaps he is just coming of age. If you feel he is losing weight, this probably warrants a visit to the vet for a fecal exam. Microscopic creepy-crawlies are rampant during warm months, and can create havoc in digestive tracts.

Best of luck with the little guy!

rgds,

althea
