I went to a Snakes Alive! presentation at my local library. I was hooked when he let me hold the corn snake. The next day I got rid of my pet mice & guinea pigs (Mom's conditions) and bought Kathy Love's book. I planned on waiting until the Raleigh show to get my first one, which was about 5 months away. I was doing so well, then 2 weeks before the show my local pet store got a baby cornsnake. I broke down and got her, setting me back $60. Yes, $60 for a skinny little normal cornsnake. Four years later and she is still my favorite out of 21 corns.
