They are born with skinny tails but once they reach about 20 grams in weight, if they are healthy and kept in ideal conditions, they will start to deposite fat in their tails, bellies, and under arms.

Egg binding can happen to any reptile that lays eggs. If environmental conditions or anatomy prohibits the female from laying her eggs they will be retained, aka egg binding.
