WDIV (Detroit, Michigan) 08 August 06 Snake Reported Missing In Macomb County - Missing Boa Constrictor Weighs 60 Pounds

A 6- to 7-foot-long boa constrictor has been reported missing in Macomb County.

The snake, which weighs about 60 pounds, was reported missing Sunday by its owner in Shelby Township, said police Chief Robert Leman.

"That thing could be anywhere," he said.

The boa constrictor had been kept at a house shared by two roommates, The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens reported. The owner moved out recently and the snake was missing when she returned to pick it up, Leman said.

Based on the owner's description, owning the snake in the Detroit suburb could be a violation of the township's animal ordinance. The ordinance specifically prohibits owning a boa constrictor longer than 4 feet.
