I use the cool mist humidifiers with at least a two gal tank (don't have to fill them as often). I only use water run through a reverse osmosis filter to keep from gunking up the system with sediments and deposits. I highly recommend spending the money on one with a built in humidistat. You can set the humidity at 50-60% and avoid possible mold problems caused by condensation on a cold wall or floor.
