I trust that FWC will be true to the claim they are trying to be fair and assure public safety. They are being pushed into an untenable position of grouping venomous with large restrictors. Chips might work on a large constrictor but some neonate venomous animals may not tolerate the slightly invasive technique as well (at least not in my hands since I would try to do this myself (1)).
On the other hand, requiring 1000 hours training to handle a large constrictor seems harsh. Suddenly grouping previously unrestricted animals with those most highly regulated will be challenging.
Back to venomous animals. Only a handful of people are licensed as it is. I am concerned about a shift in the ratio between legitimate and illegitimate owners and handlers. The animals will continue to exist in our state and we need a documented population of people who can handle them should an unusual need arise.
Requiring notification of lost animals will also be interesting. Nobody wants to lose one of these, but is FWC prepared to evacuate neighborhoods and put up with the public hysteria if a non-indigenous coral snake is reported loose?

(1) I have a vet willing to handle venomous reptiles. I only brought a C.vegrandis to him once. As much as I like and respect the guy, I would never do this again. He had the required take charge attitude and was ignoring my recommendations while he engaged in some unsafe handling techniques. I don't want to be responsible for him losing a finger and jeopardizing his practice. Therefore, any minor veterinary procedures will be performed by me.
