In the wild, there is no one putting them into rubbermaid tubs when they eat. They injest leaf litter, dirt, grass, etc. when they eat without incident. They are capable of taking in an entire rat (bones, claws, teeth) and digesting it. A little piece of bark isn't much to worry about.
