There is no real need to give pinkies to bearded dragons at all. Though they do eat them, they should never be more than a rare treat. At best, pinkies are good to help female dragons recover between clutches and dragons who have lost weight.
Pinkies should never be fed to dragons under the size of 15" and it is best to offer frozen thawed pinkies, as sometimes they do have parasites which, for the most part, are destroyed when the pinkies are frozen. (not all of them, as our freezers are not cold enough to kill the more resilient forms of bacteria and some parasite eggs). The act of freezing also ruptures cells which make the pinkies easier to digest as well, so another benefit of offering frozen thawed (thaw in warm water in a bag, make sure the pinky is completely thawed). ----- PHLdyPayne
