you can't tell the het's from the normals that is where the percentages come in. In theory by breeding a het x het you would get 25% homozygous animals 25% normal and 50% het. since the normal looking babies could be het or normal we have to come up with the percentage chance that they are carrying the trait and that is where the 66% possible hets come into play. When you bred a het animal to a normal in theory half the babies are het and that is where 50% hets are made. It could be a gamble to buy possible het's but it could pay off big time.
