Lighting for cornsnakes

Hello all,

What is the general consensus in lighting in a cornsnake environment? I've read where it is not necessary, and at the same time may be beneficial??

My plan was to use a compact flourescent bulb so as to not add any additional heat in the tank, and I was going to have it connected to a timer to turn on at 8am and off at 8pm.

Yes? No?
