Let him tell you what to do... if he's relaxed, scritch his head a bit, see how he reacts. If he spooks or is at all frightened, leave him alone for a bit. My guy I could handle from day one, he's very outgoing, but others take more time to settle in and come around. I'd make sure he's eating before too much handling myself, but head scritching and body scratching I try to get in as soon as I can without freaking out the baby
