THE REPUBLICAN (Springfield, Massachusetts) 31 August 06 Snake on a truck
Springfield police officer Lannox B. Williams pulled a 7-foot Burmese ball python from under the hood of a rented truck on Wilcox Street in the South End last night.
Williams, who has knowledge of reptiles, handled the snake, which had slithered from under the truck into the engine compartment after Springfield firefighters attempted to remove it. The python was taken to Rowley Memorial Animal Hospital.
James White, 61, who rented the truck, was taken by ambulance to Baystate Medical Center with chest pains after spotting the snake, police said. His condition was not known last night.
