it looks like the same thing I have seen on a couple of my corns before,once on a yearling and once on a two year old. Just all of a sudden one day I notice it show up and it would get bigger, always in the center of the forhead. I asked someone once and they told me they had the same thing occur and never had any problems. I put iodine or neosporine on it and within a couple sheds it is gone. Looks terrible but doesn't seem to cause any problems when cared for. When he/she sheds it will more than likely look deeper and rawer than it does now. That is, if this is the same thing and it does look like it.
BUT, NEVER hurts to go to the vet to be sure of things. Good luck with it.
