if they are scared, or nervous, or in 'defensive mode', doesn't matter how good or tasty that mouse may be, it's as good as wood to him...
have to eliminate all distractions completely, and then it should be no problem.
it may take the baby an hour or even a day to settle down long enough to find it, but once he does, it is usually much easier the next times.
