some are more conservative than others... but I would say a general plan is not to ship if the weather is below freezing or above 90 degrees.

below 40 is dangerous, heat packs make it more dangerous... they could not work, or work too well... death can result from either extreme

above 85-90 is dangerous too.. it can get much hotter in the box.

I would only ship this way if the box has a large, sealed styrofoam cooler because that will keep that air somewhat stable during the shipment (won't get too hot)
or if it's a medium box, with lots of airholes, and cool packs inside.

just remember this... too cold MAY lead to respiratory infection, etc.
too hot WILL kill your snake.

You have to take everything into consideration...

the box, the lining or sealed cooler, the insulation, the heat or cool pack and its location, the way the box is sealed, where the box is kept (cold floor in open wharehouse? HOT metal floor in back of truck in sun? etc), where the 'central sorting facility' may be... (if I ship NY to FL, it will likely stop in Ga or Wi first at a sorting facility... what are the temps there?!?!) and what time the box will be delivered and where.. left on a covered porch? out in the sun?

Some have gone out of their way to ship 'test boxes' with these configurations to prove to themselves what is the best bet.

Hope all works out for you!

Joe
