Slider Shell

It feels like my slider's shell is softer. It is flaking a little bit but this could be normal peeling. I did some reading and it could be that his calcium level is low, but I am feeling him Tetra Turtle food (ReptoMin?). He is about 4" long. Maybe I'm not feeding him enough? Also, he basks alot, but maybe I should take him out of the tank for an hour or so a day and make sure he really dries out. Can anyone offer any advice on this matter? Thanks so much. He is 6 years old (as far as I know!)
