sub-adult crested holding tail funny

My 6 month old crested gecko holds his tail out away from his body at about a 45 degree angle while climbing glass. He's not using the end of his tail to hold on with. I see no sign of injury and the tail tip (and the rest of the tail) isn't tender to touch.



He's in an aquarium that is aprox 12" x 18" x 24" with a mesh lid. The cage is misted 2x daily and several layers of newspaper are on the lid to help hold in moisture. There is a layer of spagnum moss on the bottom, climbing branches of various diameters, and a spider plant.



Anyone know what's causing this or have any thoughts?
